Modifications Table

There are four kinds of modifications involving mold changes. flag changes, minor modifications to parts of a master mold, assembly errors, and complete resculpting.

Only two limited edition pieces have been completely resculpted during their limited production runs: HL102 Cape Hatteras NC and HL145 Assateague VA.

More recently, several open editions were resculpted. (This information will be added later.)

HL102 Cape Hatteras NC

The first sculpting of HL102 Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was a beautiful, well-proportioned example with a touch of water and the oil house on the base. Unfortunately, the thin tower was prone to breaking during shipment. 266 were said to be made; perhaps less than 100 exist today.

The resculpted Cape Hatteras HL102R had a thicker tower and base, much sturdier for shipment, but not as elegant as the original. 5,234 were produced from this version.

HL145 Assateague VA

During the manufacture of HL145 Assateague VA, the master mold from which the castings are made was accidentally broken at the factory. A new piece was sculpted from scratch and there were subtle differences between the original and the remake.

The resculpted version is on the right. It is missing the chimney on the out-building and has an additional tree in the back. The base is also a bit thicker. In the new version, there is a distinct railing around the catwalk. Approximately 990 of the original version pieces were made before the light had to be redone.
