Modifications Table

There are four kinds of modifications involving mold changes. flag changes (which are listed on a separate page), minor modifications to parts of a master mold, assembly errors, and complete resculpting.

Only two pieces have been completely resculpted: HL102 Cape Hatteras NC and HL145 Assateague VA.

When production of Harbour Lights was shifted from Southern California to Ontario Canada in late 1991, Castle Studios, the Canadian firm selected for production, offered to 'clean up' the master molds of most of the 'Original 17' lighthouses introduced by Harbour Lights in that year.

Typically, the modifications were designed to make the pieces easier to cast, easier to paint, a bit more detailed, and stronger to withstand shipping.

Here are examples of the changes made. This area will be expanded to show all changes to all pieces in the future:

Improvement to doors and windows:

Burrows Island WA. The detail on and around the windows and doors was improved. Note the 'California mold' above had six window panes over the double doors while the 'Canadian mold' below has nine window panes in the same area:

Changes to make painting easier

A green pathway leading away from the Yaquina Head OR lighthouse (above) was replaced with rocks (below), making it easier to paint.

Assembly Error

Grays Harbor WA
