Admiralty Head WA

Admiralty Head, Washington
Harbour Lights #101

Admiralty Head is located on Whidbey Island in what is now the Fort Casey State Park. It was first lighted in 1861 and served until 1903 when it was moved north. The Washington State Park System acquired the property and light when the U.S. government declared the land to be surplus. It was the first wooden lighthouse in what was then the Washington Territory.

Admiralty Head WA $60 6/1991 12/1994 5,500

Production Modifications: As one of the 'Original 17' Harbour Lights, approximately the first 250 pieces were cast in Southern California.  Production was then shifted to Castle Studios in Ontario, Canada. During the time of Canadian production, some improvement  of the details was made, primarily a 'collar' to protect the ventilator ball on the top of the tower. Lightning rods were included on many in the edition run of 5,500. And approximately the first 3,000 pieces shipped included a folder with a 1989 US Postage Stamp featuring Admiralty Head.

When first sculpted, the name of the lighthouse on the flag was misspelled 'Admirality'. After approximately 5,000 of the run had been completed, it was corrected to 'Admiralty'. A few are known to have the misspelling 'Admiralpy'.
